Baltimore, Maryland, National Central Bank Building, c1925

The National Central Bank building was home to the Central Fire Insurance Company, which began business in 1865. In 1904, the insurance company lost nearly $1 million during the great Baltimore fire; ironically, fire insurance was one of its main products. It was, however, one of just three local Baltimore stock companies to survive the great disaster and recover.
