The Betsy Ross House is one of the oldest and most-visited historic locations in Philadelphia. The house has been standing since 1740, and for 150 years its central location made it prime real-estate for a variety of artists and shopkeepers. Beginning in 1898, it was recognized as the location where Ross allegedly sewed the first version of the American flag, and an effort was undertaken to preserve the historic house and open a museum.
