Just across the harbor from Boston lies the Nantasket peninsula, a popular destination since the early days of colonization. A boardwalk and several hotels were established there in the 19th century to meet the needs of the burgeoning tourist industry just a quick ferry-trip from the city. The Paragon Park amusement park opened there in 1905 to great acclaim, drawing families from the city for seaside fun. Closed in 1984, only its historic carousel remains.
