The Berkeley Building was built on Boylston Street in 1905. As a primary thoroughfare of the fashionable Back Bay, Boylston Street became central to the areas commercial and cultural activities. The buildings built upon it reflect the varying architectural styles prevalent throughout the 20th century. The Berkeley Building is an important Beaux-Arts contribution to the Back Bays streetscape, and one of the most outstanding works of architects Codman and Despradelle.
