Boston, Massachusetts, The Boston Museum, c1903

Throughout much of the 19th century, the Boston Museum was one of the citys leading theaters. Though most remembered for its theatrical performances, the building actually housed a full museum, including artwork, live animals, wax figures, stuffed birds and other curiosities. The museum was founded by Moses Kimball in the 1840s, after he purchased the New England Museum, and lasted until 1903, eight years after he died.
