Atlantic Avenue has long been one of Brooklyn�s most important thoroughfares. By the end of the 19th century, one of the area�s original private streets had become a bustling avenue, hosting the majority of the borough�s east-west traffic by truck, rail and personal transport. The castle-like 23rd Regiment Armory, at 136 feet, still towers over the intersection of Atlantic and Bedford avenues.
