Brooklyn, New York, Hotel St. George, c1903

When Hotel St. George was built in 1885, the brick building was one of the tallest in Brooklyn. Due to its immediate success, a second structure was commissioned, with an elegant glazed terra cotta design and an opulent entrance decorated by Tiffany & Co. Its roof deck and flagpoles were visible throughout Brooklyn, and its continued growth quickly made it the largest hotel in the city.
