Conceived as an elegant alternative to neighboring Luna Park�s happy chaos, Dreamland was constructed with wide boulevards and a central canal. The buildings surrounding the canal�housing rides, �freak shows,� and the technological wonders of the day�were painted white and illuminated with what was then described as one million electric light bulbs.
