Brooklyn, New York, On the Lake in Prospect Park, c1910

Intended to afford visitors an experience of natural beauty, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vauxs design for Brooklyns Prospect Park required radical changes to the already rural landscape. More than 2,000 workers moved trees, terraced hills, and excavated acres of land for what would become the parks scenic watercourse.
