Brooklyn, New York, Shore Road, c1905

A neighborhood in the southwest corner of Brooklyn, Bay Ridge was so named for its high ridge offering stunning views of the New York Bay. During the later half of the 19th century, the wealthy flocked from near and far to open land along Shore Road, where they could build summer homes and villas overlooking the water.
