Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux�s original plan for the entrance to Prospect Park did not include the now-iconic Soldiers� and Sailors� Arch. The arch was unveiled in Grand Army Plaza in 1892, but it was not until 1895, when numerous decorative sculptures were added to the structure, that the monument gained notoriety as a major work of public art.
