Charleston, South Carolina, Confederate Home and College, c1890

The Confederate Home and College was built around 1800 and, through the years, served as home to a governor, both Federal and Confederate courts, and widows and children of Confederate soldiers who died in battle. The building was also once a college, and, in 1951, became a nonprofit that offers college scholarships and housing assistance for Charlestonians in need.
