Originally opened as a sporting destination in 1875, Chester Park grew at the close of the 19th century into Cincinnati's first pleasure resort. The park continuously added attractions, including the acclaimed lake in 1902. At the height of its popularity, it's believed as many as 30,000 people swam in the lake per day. It was ringed by a boardwalk, elevated railway and roller coaster.
