At the outset of the 20th century, Cincinnati�s success as a vital link in America�s inland transportation infrastructure attracted wealthy business owners to take up residence in the city. Cincinnati�s elite favored the west side of downtown, particularly Elm Street, with its lavish shops to the south and both the Music Hall and Washington Park to the north.
