Cleveland, Ohio, Construction Around Terminal Tower, c1930

Initial plans for a small train station and 14-story office building at Public Square quickly escalated as Cleveland boomed into the 1920s. When it was dedicated in 1930, the Terminal Tower stood at 708 feet as the tallest building outside of New York City, a title it retained for many years. The Cleveland Union Terminal beneath it, which required extensive rail and infrastructure redevelopment, was one of the citys most ambitious development projects.
