Constructed in 1761, the New London Harbor Lighthouse, or Pequot Light, served an important role in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. When the original building cracked and light from neighboring homes made it difficult to distinguish, it was replaced with the current brownstone tower in 1801. The keeper�s quarters were expanded in 1900, 12 years before the light was automated.
