Connecticut, The Old State House Building, Hartford, c1906

Hartfords Old State House, built in 1796, has been an epicenter for the development of democracy in the United States. It was here that the Hartford Convention took place in 1814, along with the start of the Amistad trials in 1839. It is believed to be the first public building by noted architect Charles Bulfinch, whose design merged elements of the Victorian, Colonial Revival, and Federal styles.
