Denver, Colorado, Denver Stockyards, c1930

The arrival of the railroad in 1870 and an abundance of open range paved the way for Denvers thriving livestock trade. In 1906, the first National Western Stock Show opened in the stockyards, which were flanked by rail lines and the South Platte River. The Stock Show continues to operate in the original stockyards, using and restoring historic wooden pens.
