Denver, Colorado, Outside the Colorado State Capitol, c1905

Although the Colorado State Capitol Building was opened for use in 1894, it was not deemed complete until gold leaf, in commemoration of the Colorado Gold Rush, was added to its dome in 1908. In the interim years, craftsman continued decorative work on the structures interior; the design called for so much marble that it exhausted the worlds supply of a local variety known as Beulah red.
