Detroit, Michigan, Michigan Central Railway Tunnel, c1895

Palmer Park was created in 1895, following the donation of land by Senator Thomas Palmer, who did so on the condition that the areas virgin forest be preserved. Boasting 70 different types of trees, the park attracted thousands of visitors in the years following its creation. They came to get away from the city, stroll through the hundred of acres of woods and visit the grand casino building for refreshments.
