Opened in 1910, the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel is located under the Detroit River, connecting to the city to Windsor, Ontario. The unveiling of the 2.5-mile tunnel marked the end of the use of a train car ferry to cross the river. It was the first immersed tube tunnel to carry railway traffic.
