Kansas City experienced a period of extensive construction around the turn of the century, as noted architects from across the country began to turn their attention to the boomtown. While Art Deco and Gothic skyscrapers began to sprout up around the city, some of their stylistic elements could also be seen in smaller buildings, such the Century Office Building on Grand Avenue.
