Long Island, New York, Camp Upton, Suffolk County, c1918

Camp Upton was a military installation in Suffolk County that served as a training grounds for U.S. Army troops during both World Wars. Built during the summer of 1917, the base was one of 16 hurriedly constructed to hold and prepare soldiers for the war overseas. When the first soldiers arrived, two-thirds of the camp was yet to be complete, and they had to join laborers to finish its construction.
