Anchored off the Battery in the summer of 1844, nine New York yachtsmen resolved to form the New York Yacht Club. Originally located in Hoboken, by 1897, their clubhouse known as Station 10 had taken up residence in Glen Cove. As an organization devoted to racing, in 1851 the NYYC won what would become the Americas Cup, and held onto it for the next 132 years.
