In the 1900s, the North Shore of Long Island was known as the Gold Coast because of the grand estates built by the areas wealthy residents. Marshall Field III, a Chicago department store heir, built Caumsett Manor on 1,750 acres in Lloyd Neck between 1921 and 1925. The main house looked out to Long Island Sound, and the opulent polo stable featured 16 stalls and quarters for the grooming staff.
