Broad Street was central to the development of Richmond’s culture and
economy at the turn of the century. A large array of ornate theaters lined
the 700- and 800-blocks, known as Theatre Row, providing entertainment
for every taste and style. Neighboring Murphy’s Hotel was among the city’s
leading luxury hotels.
