For more than 50 years in the late 1800s, Clinton Square served as the town's unofficial market, with farmers parking their wagon on E. Genesee Street and all sorts of people peddling their wears. Much to the chagrin of the vendors, the Mayor decided the square should be a park and in 1899 made the market-goers relocate.
