Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bowling Tournament, c1905

The American Bowling Congress was established as bowling gained popularity across the United States. Its purpose was to standardize game regulations and control betting, while also organizing tournaments to promote the sport. In 1905, the Congress hosted a tournament in Milwaukee that was so successful that it moved its headquarters to the city. Milwaukee was thereafter known as the Bowling Capital of America.
