Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Delivering Beer, c1910

The large Wisconsin lumber trade helped supply the countless number of barrels to the breweries of Milwaukee, but the demand was so great that purchases were made outside of the area. In 1902, Schlitz Brewery became the largest U.S. beer producer and went on to share that title, over the years with Pabst Brewing Company, another Milwaukee based brewery. Horse-drawn delivery carriages carefully maintained, and gave a professional look as they made their way through town, delivering goods to the saloons.
