Milwaukee, Wisconsin, East Wisconsin Avenue, c1920

When the Chicago and North Western Railway Stationalso known as the Lake Front Depotwas completed at the end of East Wisconsin Avenue in 1890, the area was already becoming the commercial center of Milwaukee. The Romanesque station, ushering travelers into the growing city, could serve nearly 100 trains per day. After 1910, many visitors stayed at the nearby Hotel Juneau, a renovated apartment building adjacent to the station.
