New Hampshire, A Granite Quarry, Concord, c1908

As American cities grew rapidly toward the end of the 20th century, the demand for durable building materials was high. Known as the Old Granite State, New Hampshire was a key supplier for construction throughout the nation. The finely grained, light grey granite found outside of Concord was particularly sought after for the exteriors of larger steel-framed structures, such as government buildings and department stores.
