Niagara Falls, New York, Constructing the Goat Island Bridge, c1900

In anticipation of record crowds visiting Niagara Falls during Buffalos 1901 Pan-American Expedition, a two-bridge project connecting the mainland to Green Island and then to Goat Island was commissioned, and the contract was awarded to W.H. Keepers & Co. The idea was to replace the existing rickety structures with an architectural achievement of steel and concrete that was sturdier and more complementary to the areas natural beauty.
