Main Street Station opened in 1901 as a union station connecting Richmond to
two major rail lines, the SAL which ran north-south and the C&O which ran
east-west. First through decades of vitality, and later through years of neglect, its
iconic clock tower has long stood as one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
