Providence, Rhode Island, Dalrymple Boathouse, c1903

In 1871 Betsey Williams�descendant of city founder Roger Williams�gifted her family�s farm to the City of Providence, in an age when the growing city was in dire need of open, public green space. The park quickly became a beloved recreation destination for residents, with attractions including a small zoo and a famed merry-go-round. Erected in 1896, the Dalrymple Boathouse was situated lakeside amidst the attractions and became a central entertainment destination for visitors.
