Providence, Rhode Island, The Y.M.C.A. Building, c1906

During the industrial age in America, the Young Men�s Christian Association erected housing and recreational facilities in urban centers throughout the nation, intended to serve a variety of community needs. The Providence Y.M.C.A. constructed their building on Westminster Street in 1887. The impressive building was designed by the firm of Stone, Carpenter and Willson, among Providence�s most prominent architects. It lasted only until 1913, when it was demolished.
