Originally known Blood's Hotel after proprietor Orlando Blood, the hotel in Saranac Lake opened in 1860 with a Fourth of July ball, the largest and most elaborate celebration in the young town's history. The Riverside Inn subsequently became known for lavish social functions, attracting guests from miles around.
