As Rochester�s population ballooned in the early 20th century, the growing metropolis attracted visitors interested in enjoying its many developments. In 1911 alone, the city welcomed the annual conventions of the American Institute of Banking, the Grand Army of the Republic and the Shriners. Attendees staying at the grand hotels of the day, such as the Seneca Hotel on Clinton Street, would enjoy the myriad of attractions in a booming downtown, including shows at the reputable Lyceum Theatre.
