Savannah, Georgia, Bonaventure Cemetery, c1900

Bonaventure Cemetery sits on a bluff overlooking the Wilmington River, just east of the city of Savannah. Located on an old plantation, the land was owned by the Evergreen Cemetery Company before being sold to the City of Savannah in 1907. On his Thousand Mile Walk that began in Florida, famed naturalist John Muir spent six days and nights in the cemetery, and his published writings later reflected on the sites breathtaking natural beauty.
