Flush with shops, restaurants, and public services, Broughton Street emerged in the 20th century at the center of Savannah�s shopping district. Jewelers and shoe stores shared the streetscape with glasscutters and tailors, so residents could blend luxury with practicality as they made their way down the busy thoroughfare. As electric lighting came to the city, business hours were extended and shops installed bulbs on signs to light the night.
