Boston's South Station opened in 1899, the consolidation of four separate train terminals that served south-side railroads. Within 10 years of opening, it was one of the busiest railway stations in the world. The Atlantic Avenue Elevated Railway, seen here crossing the building's facade, delivered passengers to the station from 1901 to 1938.
