St. Louis, Missouri, Aerial view of downtown St Louis, c1929

In the 1920s, two new skyscrapers forever changed the St. Louis. Upon construction, the Southwestern Bell Building became the citys tallest. The Civil Courts Building featured a pair of griffins sitting on a pyramid atop a Greek Temple, and was designed as a replica of the tomb of King Mausolus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
