Niagara Falls, New York, The Rock of Ages, c1900

The bravest visitors to the Falls descended to its base, crossed a walkway held up by a large piece of limestone called the Rock of Ages, and entered the Cave of the Winds. This cavern behind Bridal Veil Falls became so popular that businessmen charged as much as $1 per person to see it in the years prior to the establishment of the State Reservation of Niagara in 1885.
