Niagara Falls, New York, Whirlpool Rapids, c1907

The water from Niagara Falls rages through an increasingly narrow gorge as it travels downstream, creating whitewater. The Great Gorge Route was a rail line that stretched from Prospect Point to these Whirlpool Rapids. In the early 1900s, intrepid tourists and locals alike would ride in streetcars that put them right next to the rapids.
