Syracuse, New York, The Syracuse Varsity Rowers, c1910

The Boating Association of Syracuse University was founded in 1873, just a few years after the university itself. James A. Ten Eyck of the Naval Academy became the teams coach in 1903. Though he was already 50 when he assumed the post, Ten Eyck would lead the team for nearly four decades, earning 10 national championships during his tenure, and assuming the nickname The Sly Fox of the Hudson.
